Gilbert Wade
Dr. Wade Gilbert is an award-winning professor in the Department of Kinesiology at California State University, Fresno. Prior to Fresno State he was a Postdoctoral Fellow in Sport Psychology and Talent Development at UCLA. He has more than 20 years of experience conducting applied research and consulting with coaches of youth, high school, college, national and Olympic teams around the world. He is widely published and is frequently invited to serve as a featured speaker at national and international events. Gilbert is also editor-in-chief of the International Sport Coaching Journal.

Coaching athletes for peak performance: The 4C’s approach
The focus of this presentation will address how a coaches’ core value and behavior relate to an athletes performance. Specifically, the discussion will focus on the application of the 4C’s (competence, confidence, connection and character) and their link to coaching effectiveness.
Quality coaching results in athlete development in four areas, collectively referred to as the 4C’s: competence, confidence, connection, and character. The focus of this presentation is to share evidence-based strategies for coaching athletes to peak performance across all four of these athlete outcomes. Additionally, coaching behaviors will be addressed as a means for coaching effectiveness and the link to the 4C’ approach. The interactive presentation will allow participants to address and examine their own core values of coaching and how they can coach their athletes to peak performance across the 4C’s. The presenters will draw on their extensive experience conducting applied research and collaborating with successful coaches and athletes across all levels of high performance sport – from high school to college and Olympic teams.
