Exercise Science Content Knowledge
Participants will deepen their exercise science content knowledge through the discussion of two important topics in exercise science. First, we will explore power. Is power health-related fitness or skill related fitness and how should it be taught? Second, we will discuss the Lifetime Physical Activity Model and the Exercise Prescription Model. What is the difference and what should be taught.
1) Power and its likelihood to be considered health-related fitness rather than skill-related fitness.
2) Exercise prescription model vs. Lifetime Physical Activity Model. An explanation of these two models and changes in the national physical education standards.
Goal: Challenge participants to think more deeply about what and how they are teaching this important exercise science content.
Learning outcome: Participants will have a deeper understanding of this content and will be informed of exercise science content that is likely to influence the FITNESSGRAM assessment. Participants will gain a better understanding of how the national physical education content standards have changed in regard to the Lifetime Physical Activity Model vs. an Adult Exercise Prescription Model.

Grading Student Work in Physical Education - Let’s Talk More!
What purposes do grades serve in physical education? How should we develop criteria for grading? Why is grading often a challenge? Join us to listen, learn, talk, and think move about grading.
Grading student work has become increasingly complex and distracting for teachers. This session will refocus thinking and provide opportunity for physical educators to collaborate on solutions that they face in this area.
