Dwan Marie BridgesDwan Marie Bridges, a Professor of Kinesiology at California State University, Los Angeles, is a dynamic and dedicated scholar and leader in her field. This excellence is evident in the breadth of her accomplishments and recognitions for promoting adapted physical education and multiculturalism (diversity) participation within the profession. Dwan has dedicated the past 25 years to the professional community and is well known worldwide for her leadership and scholarly activities. Recently, she was elected secretary for the International Federation of Adapted Physical Activity. Also, she has served in many key leadership positions for professional organizations, such as the California Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance, the Ethnic Minorities Council for the former American Association of Active Lifestyles and Fitness, National Consortium for Physical Education for Individuals with Disabilities, and the Southwest District of SHAPE America. Dwan has received many awards as a testament to her professionalism and service, recently she was named a Distinguished Women Awardee at California State University, Los Angeles and a Honor Award recipient for the California Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance. Dwan’s philosophy is to provide each person with an equal opportunity to achieve their highest potential - for only what one does for others will be a lasting legacy.
