Sport Education: A Teaching Model That Never Grows Old
Would you like to be able to improve class behavior and attendance, make students responsible for their own learning, and add assessments to your curriculum? The Sport Education model can do this and include all the National Standards. Speedball activities will be used for this session. Participants may use this model immediately for fitness, lifetime or team activities.
Learn how to properly use various passes and have the concept of space awareness while attempting a pass. A variety of skill drills will be used in the session.
Assessments and skill drills as well as small sided games will be used in this session.
Participants will play speedball under the modified rules exhibiting acceptable levels of personal and social responsibility. Participants will learn how to begin a sport education unit and assign roles. Handouts and a power point will be given to participants. Participants will discuss how this might work in their curriculum.
Embedded outcomes:
1.Responds appropriately to participants’ ethical and unethical behavior during physical activity by using rules and guidelines for resolving conflicts. (S4.M4.8)
2.Cooperates with multiple classmates on problem-solving initiatives. (S4.M5.8)
