This "hands on" session will have you explore the "twists and turns" of teaching gymnastics related content to your K-6 students. This session will focus on the traveling and tumbling skills of educational gymnastics that are in the CA Physical Education Model Content Standards.

The goal for this session is that the participant will learn how to teach gymnastics related content in a developmentally appropriate way.
Learning objectives
The participant will learn the following:
1)Where the skills of traveling and tumbling fit into the CA physical education standards.
2)A variety of instructional strategies for teaching the skills of traveling and tumbling in a developmentally appropriate way.
3)How to incorporate a variety of informational text to enhance and deepen the student’s learning.
4)How to incorporate the four C’s (Communication, Collaboration, Creativity and Critical thinking) into lessons to enhance student learning.
5)How to embed formative assessment within instructional activities.

Share my background and experience with content. Find out what grade levels are represented, experience with teaching the content, what they hope to gain from the session.
Teaching the Gymnastics Related Content of Traveling and Tumbling
What? To learn instructional strategies to facilitate the learning the gymnastics related content of traveling and tumbling.
Why? So your students can successfully learn the gymnastics related content in a developmentally appropriate way.
How? You will be able to successfully teach the content in an engaging and appropriate way.
This session will focus on two of the three content areas of “educational gymnastics” – Traveling Actions and Rotation (tumbling).

Even and Uneven Rhythm
Animal Moves and Transfer of Weight
Incorporating the 4 C’s into your instruction
Rotation (Tumbling)
Foundational Principles involved in Rotation
Radius – short = faster
Eye focus
The Three Axis – Vertical, Horizontal and Transverse Axis
Participants will experience a variety of instructional activities to help students deepen learning.
