The Benefits of Ballroom DanceDance is more than movement to music. It’s an expression of emotion, deep rooted from the heart and soul. The benefits of ballroom dance are exponential: touching on four points of happiness.*Possible ballroom dance performance by presenters
*Warm up activity: Merengue line dance or group class (depends on how many people are attending the session)
What does it mean to be happy? Close your eyes and think of a single time that made you happy. Not just put a smile on your face happy. A time that made you smile from cheek to cheek, that made your heart and soul overflow with emotion, something that sent you into a trance, and nothing else mattered except how happy that time made you.
*Group class – Tango, Salsa & Swing
4 Points of Happiness
1. Mental – ballroom dance challenges the mind, as there are no boundaries to growth.
2. Social – ballroom dance can be danced solo, but generally danced with a partner. It encourages etiquette, the use of manners, the importance of hygiene, and effective communication skills.
3. Physical – dance is one of the best forms of exercise. Ballroom dance requires use of the core, arm styling, and control stemming from the foot-to-floor connection all the way up through the stretch of the neck.
4. Emotional – the combination of Mental, Social and Physical points result in an emotional point. The music and movement activate the brain and the heart to develop an emotional response.
Dance is a language. What is the fastest and most efficient way to learn a new language? Have an open mind and immerse yourself in it. Use all of your senses (sight, touch, hear, taste, smell).
*Challenge: take a ballroom dance class, solo or with a partner, and explore the benefits of ballroom dance and see what it can do for you.
