Dan Hatfield
Daniel Hatfield, PhD, is a Post-Doctoral Scholar at Tufts University Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy. His current work focuses on developing and evaluating the New Balance Foundation Billion Mile Race, an initiative that is challenging children at schools across the U.S. to walk and run a collective one billion miles. This video explains how the Billion Mile Race works. Dr. Hatfield completed his undergraduate degree at Princeton University and spent six years as a high-school teacher and coach before completing a Master of Science in Nutrition Communication and a PhD in Food Policy & Applied Nutrition at Tufts University. His research centers on strategies for promoting physical activity and healthy eating among children and adolescents, particularly in underserved communities. Outside his work at Tufts, Dr. Hatfield collaborates with schools, community programs, and other partners on strategies for translating scientific evidence into on-the-ground tactics for promoting physical activity and healthy eating among children. In his spare time, Dan enjoys recreational running and recently completed his sixth marathon.
