Cuban Salsa Rueda
Cuban Salsa Rueda (Rueda de Casino) is Cuban Square Dance. Students learn the basic Salsa steps and immediately apply them to fun, interactive dance steps performed in a circle. Partners switch frequently and by design. None of the dance steps include holding the partner's hand. The lesson taught at the conference will give material for a 2-4 week unit.
The participants will perform the basic Cuban Salsa step and learn interactive dance moves they can then teach to a large PE class setting. The lesson will include practicing all moves, as the actual class of students would do. I will film the lesson and post it on my website additionally to the curriculum, rubric and music. I taught the class successfully at the CAPHERD conference in LA and was asked to teach it again this year.

Each song contains 3-4 sets of simple choreography that repeats throughout the song. The movements are easy to learn yet fun to execute.
During this class we will learn the 5 choreographies by breaking them down first, followed by dancing the full song. Bring your video camera or phone to record either the instructor or yourself for your movement library. Handouts with related assignments and rubrics will be available.
You will not only leave the class with 5 dance work out choreographies designed for physical education students but with the tools to create your own choreographies for your favorite songs.
